The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals honored their four seniors on Saturday before one of those seniors, Roxy Curiel, hit a grand slam home run to help the Lady Chaps complete the series sweep of the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University 12-1 in a run-ruled shortened game at PlainsCapital Park on the LCU campus.
EARLY
The Lady Chaps (29-14) jumped on top early scoring three runs in the first inning with Sydney Beuthien driving a ball up the middle to score Courtney Medina before Lindzi Clemmer hit a ball up the middle to plate Casey Ingram and Beuthien.
GRAND
LCU added nine more runs in the second inning starting with a bases-loaded walk by Ingram to bring in pinch runner Shelby Welch. Beuthien followed with a double to left-center field to plate Averi Miller and Medina. Katera Eltsosie then drove in Ingram. Addison Ard hit a sacrifice fly to center field to get Beuthien home before Roxy Curiel came to the plate with the bases loaded to hit a grand slam blast over the center field fence to score Makenzie Roberts, Clemmer, Alyssa Hanks and herself to put LCU on top 12-0. All 20 of the Lady Chaps suited out saw action in the inning.
IN THE CIRCLE
Katlyn Holmes (6-3) started in the circle for LCU going the distance allowing only one run off three hits while striking out four to earn her sixth victory of the season. Julia Ibarra (6-16) got the start for the Aggies lasting only 1.1 innings giving up 12 runs on eight hits suffering her 16th loss of the year. Emily Worley threw the last 2.2 innings not allowing any runs off two hits.

SENIORS
The four Lady Chap seniors were honored prior to the game. Below is a summary of their career highlights.
#14 – ROXY CURIEL
Roxy has played all four years of her career for the Lady Chaps. Curiel has a career batting average of .386 while wearing the Lady Chap uniform with 69 games behind the dish calling pitches. After graduation Roxy plans to go into teaching and wishes to coach the sport she loves. Her favorite memory as a Lady Chap is playing in Hawaii, but really more so just going to Hawaii with family and friends.
#15 – KATLYN HOLMES
Holmes transferred to LCU from Midwestern State playing the final two years of her career with the Lady Chaps. In her time as a Lady Chap Katlyn has thrown two-no-hitters, while climbing the ranks in the Lady Chap record books as she currently sits 3rd all-time in saves with 6, 4th all-time in shutouts with 6, 5th all-time in wins with 25 and 6th all-time in strikeouts with 118. Katlyn was named all-conference last season in her first season with the team. While with LCU Holmes has amassed a 25-9 record in 213.1 innings pitched with a 2.59 ERA. After graduation Katlyn plans to travel abroad for the month of June then she wants to work in a marketing internship and be an assistant pitching coach. Her favorite softball memory as a Lady Chap is transferring in and learning how to love the game again. She says, “I grew as a person on and off the field because of coach Hays, my teammates and LCU.”
#16 – ADDISON ARD
Addison has played all four years of her career here at Lubbock Christian. Addison has played in over 150 games in the Lady Chap uniform with a career .315 batting average and .480 slugging percentage. She has 88 hits, 27 of which were for extra bases – 17 doubles, a triple and nine home runs. Ard has driven in 69 runs for LCU. After graduation she plans to start teaching and attend grad school to become a diagnostician. She says it’s hard to pick a favorite memory here Hawaii was so great, but her favorite memory has to be her friendships. Ard say, “This team is my family.”
#25 – KATERA ELTSOSIE
Eltsosie has played her entire college career at LCU. As a freshman Katera was named conference Pitcher of the Year and conference Freshman of the Year. She was also named first-team all-American. She has been named to the first-team all-conference team every year as a Lady Chap. Eltsosie sits atop the all-time Lady Chap record books in several categories: most wins-84, most saves-12, most strikeouts-563, most complete games-75, most innings pitched-649.2, second most shutouts-16, fourth lowest career ERA 1.87. What may be more impressive is that she also sits with ninth best overall career batting average, hitting .409 in 131 games with 105 RBI’s and 21 home runs. After graduation Katera plans to attend nursing school to become a nurse practitioner. She says, “My favorite memory with LCU is definitely getting to play one year with my sister, Latainna, as well as the memories and friends I’ve made along the way.”
