Monterey trailed the entire first quarter. But the Plainsmen took the lead over the Odessa High Broncos in the second quarter and appeared to be headed to a season opening victory with a 24-7 lead with close to nine minutes to go in the game. The Broncos would score twenty-one unanswered including the final touchdown off of a blocked punt for a touchdown with six seconds left to upend Monterey 28-24.
