TEXAS — The University Interscholastic League released its new district alignments for high schools all around Texas for 2020-2022.
In football, Lubbock area schools primarily remained in their same conferences, except for Ropes, which moved from 1A to 2A. That means the Eagles will go from playing 6-man football to 11-man.
In Conference 5A Division 1, Lubbock High, Coronado and Monterey will now have to play Tascosa, which was added to their District 2 after realignment.
The Rebels will pose a significant challenge, as they made the 6A Division 2 Quarterfinals last season.
Abilene Cooper moved out of that district, and over to District 3. The district now consists of Amarillo, Caprock, Palo Duro, Tascosa, Lubbock High, Coronado and Monterey.
Tascosa’s change will also affect Frenship; the two schools shared a district last cycle. Abilene High and San Angelo Central joined Frenship’s 6A District 2.
Lubbock Cooper’s district in 5A Division 2 remains the same, with Abilene Wylie, Canyon Randall, Plainview, Wichita Falls High and Rider as its opponents.
In Conference 4A Division 2, Estacado shares a district with Borger, Levelland, Perryton and Seminole. Dalhart is no longer in the district. Seminole moves back into the district it occupied two cycles ago, moving back down after two years in 4A Division 1.
Shallowater moved from 3A Division 1 District 2 to District 1, where it will have to take uncharacteristic trips south to play Kermit and Denver City. Slaton, Lamesa and Brownfield round out that conference.
