Texas Tech is heading home early after a 12-7 ten inning loss at the hands of West Virginia Friday afternoon.
Grant Little opened up the scoring with a two run double in the bottom of the third inning but the Mountaineers would respond with two runs of their own off in the top of the fourth.
Sophomore Ryan Shetter lasted four innings giving up two earned runs on eight hits.
In the fifth seldom used Anthony Lyons drove in two runs to put Tech up 4-2, Ryan Long looked to put Texas Tech in control with a two run homer in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-3.
WVU would not go away scoring one in the eighth to cut the lead to 6-4. In the top of the ninth with a runner on Jackson Cramer singled to right field, the ball would get under Ryan Long’s glove rolling all the way to the wall, allowing both runners to score tying the game at 6.
In the top of the tenth the Mountaineers exploded for 6 runs off of Caleb Freeman and John Henry Gonzalez. The Red Raiders loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame but Long grounded into a game ending double play.
Texas Tech will have to wait until Sunday to find out its national seed in the NCAA Tournament, the regional will be set on Monday when the entire field is announced.
