Texas Tech alum Cody Hodges found a good deal of success on the football field from a young age all the way up to the professional level…
But it’s his work since leaving football that has been the biggest impact of all.
Hodges career began at Hereford High School where he was a standout QB for the Thurdering Herd…Attaining a 22-4 record a trip the state title game in 1999…Throwing for over 65-hundred yards and 70 tds to go along with running for 30 tds…
Hodges would go on to Texas Tech where he played for Mike Leach…Starting only his senior year after playing behind Red Raider coach Kliff Kingsbury, B.J. Symons, and Sonny Cumbie.
He led tech to a 9-2 record and an appearance in the cotton bowl.
He played professional football for only a handful of years before embarking on his current profession…When Hodges began speaking for Rachel’s Challenge….an organization started by the parents of Rachel Scott.
She was the first student killed at columbine high school in 1999.
Through Rachel’s Challenge, Hodges is able to convey to parent, student, and community members the importance of acceptance, inclusion, and compassion…Spreading an anti-bullying message and empowering students to make good choices.
“Through that tragedy just an incredible story of kindness and compassion of Rachel Scott and who she was and what she stood for and the things she stood by. I think so many of our students today, they live in a different world that I didn’t live in. And it’s hard being a teenager. And there’s so many distractions and things vying for their attention. For our teenagers there’s a lot of people telling them what not to do. It’s don’t do this and don’t do that. And for us why don’t we tell them what they can do. You can be kind. And you can show compassion. And when you shine the light in somebody, they’ll usually give you their best.”
