Where Are They Now Wednesday features a true LISD hoops legend in Erika Valek. Valek was a standout hoops star for the Coronado Mustangs. She actually petitioned to play as an underclassman playing on varsity as a freshman. But the decision the coaching staff and LISD Athletics office made to let her play, reaped huge benefits. Valek was a four time all district and three time all state basketball player and was highly recruited coming out of Coronado including by Marsha Sharp and Texas Tech. Instead she ventured east to Purdue where she once again demonstrated her skill set which eventually landed her playing professionally overseas for a few years. Valek’s contributions to South Plains hoops were fully realized as she was inducted into the LISD Hall of Honor as part of the class of 2017.
