Mike Meeks journey began as a student in the LISD system playing football and running track for the Coronado Mustangs.
His ability on the field earned him an opportunity to play for coach Bill Kelly and then Don Carthel at Eastern New Mexico University.
He began his coaching journey as a grad assistant for Coach Carthel before venturing out on his own with stops at El Paso Socorro and Fort Stockton.
Then Meeks was an assistant under John Parchman at Midland Lee from 1995 to to 2005…part of three consecutive state championships from 1998 to 2000.
Over twenty years later coach Meeks returned to coach at his alma mater, Coronado as an assistant coach under Butch Henderson and head track coach until his move into the administrative side in July of 2013.
And then after Mark Ball announced his retirement after the end of the 2016 school year, Meeks was named the Executive Director of Athletics for LISD.
Quite the journey back home to Lubbock…but an experience Meeks wouldn’t trade for anything.
“It’s been a thrill for me to go around town and just watch and see how our other coaches and programs operate. I’ve become a fan of all of our schools. All of our teams.”
