As a two year-old boy, Todd Duncan’s parents shot video of him shooting a basketball at what he calls a big rimmed goal. How telling is that years later what started as a toddler would become the LCU Head Men’s Basketball Coach’s passion. “I just have always had a competitive spirit to always do well. My path is so unique in that I wasn’t very good, but people invested in me and believed in me.” People like coaching legends like Jimmy Joe Robinson and Gerald Myers pushed Duncan to be more than he thought he could be. In having success at Coronado, Midland College, and then Texas Tech set Duncan on a path that could only end one way, as a basketball coach. After coaching AAU ball, Duncan began his coaching tenure at a school at Trinity Christian. He led the Lions from 1996 to 2011 which included multiple, deep post season runs and a TAPPS 4A State Championship for the 1998-1999 season. Then in 2011, Duncan moved from the high school ranks to the college ranks at Lubbock Christian University where he has only built on an incredibly rich basketball heritage. Duncan also got to help in ushering the LCU Athletics program from NAIA, to NCAA Division Two. In their first year of post season eligibility, the Chaps made it to the post season…knocking off the #1 seed in Midwestern State. Duncan sees many more monumental moments for the program, but hopes the legacy he leaves with his players will be one that lasts a lifetime. “Hopefully they’ll remember that I care about them. Maybe they’re a little bit better. They’ve had an advantage in life maybe because I was a small part of it.”
