Notre Dame transfer Kolin Hill and Michigan transfer Ondre Pipkins could bring a spark to Texas Tech’s rather lackluster defense from last year.

The defensive line, who struggled to stop the run game, has been a major concern for fans. Hill and Pipkins could be the help Texas Tech has been looking for.

Both players bring size and depth to the Red Raider defense, but they agree the biggest adjustment on the field will be the speed of the Big 12.

“The Big 12 is definitely way faster tempo than where I was before. We played a few teams who tempoed us a lot but I feel like every team in the Big 12 tempos you and it’s a fast paced game,” Hill said.

Pipkins, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, said he’s healthy and ready to get on the field.

“I think the coaches have a good game plan and they are going to put us in positions in order to win so I think we will be put in those positions and then we will execute,” Pipkins said.

Many are saying Texas Tech hasn’t seen defensive athletes, like Pipkins and Hill, on their roster in quite sometime.
