Texas Tech Lady Raider Basketball kicked off the 2016-17 season with a 90-80 win in the season opener over North Dakota Sunday afternoon.
 
The Lady Raiders (1-0) scored 33 points in the first quarter, marking the most points scored in a quarter. Texas Tech also forced the Fighting Hawks (0-2) to turn over the ball 21 times while recording 11 assists and scoring 23 points off turnovers.
 
The Lady Raiders recorded six 3-pointers in the first half, the most made in a quarter.
 
After entering the half with a 50-44 lead, the Lady Raiders turned up the pressure, holding the Fighting Hawks to just 16 points, their lowest scoring quarter of the game.
 
Four Lady Raiders scored double digits in the season opening win. Sophomore guard Recee’ Caldwell led the charge with a career-high 28 points, seven assists, two boards and a steal. Along with her 28 points, Caldwell hit five 3-pointers. Senior Ivonne CookTaylor, freshman Arella Guirantes and junior Larryn Brooks all followed with 10 points each. Guirantes also recorded four blocks and five rebounds.
 
The Lady Raiders have won 11 straight home openers at the United Supermarkets Arena.
 
Texas Tech travels to Texas A&M on Thursday for the first road game of the season. Tip is set for 7 p.m. (CT) and the game will be televised on SEC Network Plus.
