The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps won the decisive game three Saturday 4-2 to take the Heartland Conference series over the Hilltoppers of St. Edward’s University at PlainsCapital Park on the LCU campus.
EARLY
The third batter of the game, Kayla Appleby, grounded out to score Alex Mayfield and put St. Edward’s (13-23) on top 1-0 after the top-half of the first inning. The Lady Chaps (23-12) would answer in the bottom-half of the inning when Katera Eltsosie drove a ball through the left side to plate Casey Ingram and even the game at 1-1.
ONE
The Lady Chaps scored one run in the second, fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-1 lead. In the second inning, Addison Ard came home from third base on a wild pitch. In the fifth inning, Alyssa Hanks singled up the middle to drive in Sydney Beuthien. Ard scored again in the sixth inning off the bat of Courtney Medina. St. Edward’s added a run in the top of the seventh inning on a throwing error by Casey Ingram, but the ‘Toppers would leave two runners stranded in the inning.
IN THE CIRCLE
Katera Eltsosie (12-4) started in the circle for LCU and went the distance, allowing one earned run off nine hits while striking out two Hilltoppers. She earned her 12th victory of the season. Lauren Slatten (6-8) got the start and also went the distance for St. Edward’s, giving up four runs off eight hits. She struck out 10 Lady Chaps to suffer her eighth loss of the year.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Lady Chaps will hit the road for a mid-week matchup on Tuesday against No. 12 West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas.
