Texas Tech baseball freshman outfielder Grant Little has been named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, the league announced today.

It’s the first conference accolade for the Midland native. His honor marks the fifth weekly award for a Red Raider this season, as Tanner Gardner (March 13), Steven Gingery (Feb. 27), Hunter Hargrove (Feb. 21) and Josh Jung (Feb. 21) have all received recognition by the Big 12 in 2017.

Little racked up a team-high .412 average over 17 at-bats last week, helping the Red Raiders complete a perfect 5-0 week, including the first three-game sweep over Wichita State in program history. He tallied seven hits, including a double and two triples, along with three RBI, two runs scored and two walks.

In the first game of the series against the Shockers, Little came one hit shy of the cycle, needing a home run to accomplish the feat, giving him his third three-hit game of the year. He followed it with another triple and a single in Saturday’s 4-1 win over WSU.

Little is tied for the team-lead in multi-hit performances this season with 2017 conference honorees in Hargrove & Gardner at 10 each. Little also leads the Big 12 in OBP at .475 and is tied for the conference lead in batting average at .385.

The No. 3 Red Raiders return home for a pair of midweek games against Texas Southern on March 28-29 at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
