Texas Tech junior quarter Patrick Mahomes II was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday morning after recording 584 yards of total offense and six touchdowns last weekend at Arizona State.

It is the fourth career weekly honor for Mahomes, who enters this Saturday’s home contest with Louisiana Tech as the nation’s leader in passing and total offense. Mahomes previously received the accolade twice during his 2015 sophomore campaign and once at the end of his 2014 true freshman season.

Mahomes finished 38-of-53 for 540 yards and five touchdowns against the Sun Devils, leading the Red Raider offense to the 50-point mark for the second time already this season. He also rushed 11 times for 44 yards and a touchdown as well.

His 584 yards of total offense ranked sixth all-time in Tech history and seventh overall in the Big 12 record book. The performance marked the second time in Mahomes’ career where he had passed for over 500 yards as he previously eclipsed the mark in a 2014 contest against No. 5 Baylor.

Mahomes has now passed for at least 300 yards in 15 of his 19 starts as Texas Tech’s quarterback. During that span, he has thrown for 400 yards seven times, two of which that have already come this season.

Mahomes has totaled 1,023 passing yards through just two games this season which easily leads the country. He is averaging 562.0 yards of total offense per game for an offensive unit that leads the country in passing yards and ranks second in total offense and tied for third in scoring offense.

Mahomes and the Red Raiders return to Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday evening when Tech hosts Louisiana Tech in a 6 p.m. kickoff. The game can be seen on FOX Sports Net or heard over 40-plus affiliates on the Texas Tech Sports Network.
