From the first snap against West Virginia, Texas Tech’s junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t look healthy.
In fact, it appeared that Mahomes actually regressed from his last game against Kansas State. A game against the Wildcats that most had figured he would miss due to the severity of his shoulder injury against Kansas.
On Monday, Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury said that he believed Mahomes didn’t play well due to a lack of practice time previous to their matchup with West Virginia.
“I think his lack of practicing caught up to him,” Kingsbury said. “I think that first week he was still kind of in that streak, in that zone. And this last week not practicing as much as we would have liked probably caught up to him. Then he tried to do a little bit too much, I felt like, in the second half.”
