After breaking the FBS record for single-game total offense, Patrick Mahomes II has been named the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the week. This is the fifth Big 12 weekly award of his career, having won it twice this year, twice in 2015 and once in 2014.
 
In addition to his record-breaking 819 yards of total offense against Oklahoma, Mahomes was responsible for seven total touchdowns, giving him the FBS lead with 35. His 35 touchdowns are equal to or more than the totals of 109 FBS teams.
 
734 of Mahomes’ yards came through the air, equaling the FBS record for single-game passing yards.
He now has an FBS-leading 3,313 passing yards on the year, the second most passing yards by a player through seven games in FBS history.
 
Not including last Saturday’s game, there have only been seven occasions since 2000 in which a team has accounted for more yards than Mahomes had by himself against the Sooners.
 
To go along with his record-breaking night through the air, Mahomes logged a career-high 85 rushing yards and recorded two scores on the ground.
 
Mahomes engineered an offensive attack that went 20-of-25 on third downs, and notched 42 total first downs. He also set school records for passing attempts (88), passing yards and total offense, among other categories.
 
In addition to the Big 12 honor, The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, has tabbed Mahomes as one of its eight “Stars of the Week.” Fans can visit the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s Facebook page and vote for which of the eight quarterbacks they believe had the best performance of the week.
 
When voting closes on Thursday at 11 a.m. CT, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
 
Mahomes leads the FBS in passing yards (3,313), total offense (3,550) and points responsible for (210), while guiding an offense that leads the FBS in passing yards, total offense and third down conversion percentage, and ranks second in scoring offense.
 
Mahomes and the Red Raiders return to action on Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth, taking on TCU. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPN2. Fans can also hear the game on the 40-plus affiliates on the Texas Tech Sports Network.
