Sunday afternoon No. 10 Texas Tech claimed the series at No. 6 TCU with a 3-1 win in the series finale against the Horned Frogs.
Texas Tech (34-13, 14-4 Big 12) leaves the DFW area still controlling first place in the Big 12 standings.
It all started on the mound for the Red Raiders. Tech junior left-handed pitcher Ty Damron threw five scoreless innings, however, responsible for one run given up on four hits, and added five strikeouts.
What won’t be seen in the box score is how many jams Damron got himself out of this afternoon. It was arguably Damron’s best start of his Red Raider career.
Runs were hard to come by in this one for both teams. Tech added two runs in the top of the third to get out to a 2-0 lead.
Then in the top of the fifth, Tech senior outfielder Tyler Neslony came home on a wild pitch to give Tech a 3-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth, TCU added a run to cut Tech’s lead to 3-1.
Texas Tech will be back in action when they travel to Kansas for a three-game set next weekend. First pitch for Friday’s contest is set for 6 p.m. in Lawrence, KS. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
