The Red Raiders accumulated a 5-0 lead through their first four innings at the plate, but could not hold onto the lead.
The Bears stormed back with an 8-0 run over the next two innings, including a seven-run fifth inning to take a 8-5 lead over Texas Tech.
However, in the top of the seventh inning Tech senior utility player Corey Raley hit a 3-run bomb over the left field wall to tie the game at 8-8.
Then, in the top of the eighth inning, with two runners on, Tech junior right fielder Stephen Smith hit a single, but two throwing errors by California resulted in all three Tech runners coming home, as Tech regained an 11-8 lead.
Texas Tech would never give it up, holding on to defeat California 11-8 and even the series at 1-1, with two games remaining on the weekend.
Due to rain, Texas Tech and California are still debating whether or not they will play the second game of the scheduled Saturday doubleheader.
