No. 3 Texas Tech defeated UNLV, 5-2, in the first of a two-game midweek set with the Rebels.
The Raiders took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, and then strung together two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding 5-0 lead and never looked back.
Offensively, Tech five different hitters with one RBI. They were led by junior shortstop Orlando Garcia who finished 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.
On the mound, Tech freshman right-handed pitcher John Henry Gonzalez had a bounce back performance after suffering his first loss of the season to UT-Arlington last Tuesday. Against UNLV, Gonzalez pitched six innings, and only gave up one run, and added two strikeouts.
Tech and UNLV will be back in action on Wednesday at noon in their final game of the midweek series.
