No. 3 Texas Tech defeated Wichita State 3-1 in game three, and completed their third sweep of an opponent this season. The Red Raiders (22-4, 3-0 Big 12) sweep of Wichita State marked their first road sweep of a foe this season. The Red Raiders have now won eight-straight games.
Tech scored three runs on seven hits. The Red Raiders struck first in the top of the second inning after freshman second baseman Brian Klein singled to left center and scored freshman catcher Michael Berglund, and give Tech a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, freshman pitcher and designated hitter, John McMillon, singled through the left side to score freshman outfielder Grant Little, and build Tech’s lead to 2-0.
The Shockers would get a run back in the bottom of the third inning, after Shockers’ freshman infielder Alex Jackson singled to center field to score junior infielder Bryant Klusener, and cut Tech’s lead to 2-1.
Then in the top of the sixth inning the Red Raiders were given a break. Tech had runners on the corners, two outs, and junior shortstop Orlando Garcia was two strikes down. Garcia struck out swining, but a wild pitch from WSU’s sophomore right-handed pitcher Clayton McGinness and Tech’s senior first baseman Hunter Hargrove scored to give the Raiders a 3-1 lead.
Texas Tech is back in action on Tuesday, March 28 when they host Texas Southern University in a two-game midweek set. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 6:30 p.m. at Dan Law Field.
