No. 4 Texas Tech edged out No. 21 Texas, 2-1 in their Big 12 opener.
In a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh inning, Tech freshman catcher Michael Berglund hit a liner down the right field line to score Tech senior first baseman Hunter Hargrove from first. That score gave Tech a 2-1 lead that they would never give up.
Tech sophomore right handed pitcher Davis Martin set the table for the Tech pitching staff, after he pitched 6.1 innings, only giving up one run on two hits, while striking out six Texas hitters, and only giving up four walks.
In the seventh inning Tech sophomore left handed pitcher Parker Mushinski came on in relief of Martin, to pitch 2.1 innings of shutout baseball, while striking out four Texas hitters, and only walking one. For the final out of the game, Tech freshman right handed pitcher John McMillon sealed the win with a strikeout of Ryan Reynolds to give Tech the 2-1 victory over the Horns.
Texas Tech is back in action for game two of the series against Texas, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. from UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The game will be televised by the Longhorn Network.
