Tuesday night the No. 4 Texas Tech baseball team suffered their first midweek loss of the year, falling to UT-Arlington 5-1.
The Mavericks (9-8) hung a 3-spot in the second inning. The run started behind a 2-RBI double from Noah Vaughan. Then later in the frame, Tech’s starting freshman right-handed pitcher John Henry Gonzalez balked to score another UTA run from third. The Mavericks controlled a 3-0 lead after two innings. UTA added one more run in the fifth, and another insurance run in the 8th inning to give them a 5-1 win.
Three out of the five runs that Texas Tech (14-4) gave up, came from lead-off walks. On the mound the Red Raiders could never find momentum. In two innings, Gonzalez gave up three runs, three walks, and earned one strikeout before getting yanked. Tech would use seven different pitchers on the night.
Offensively, the Red Raiders could never get going. For the second time in their last four games, the Tech bats only produced two hits on the night. The Red Raiders only finished with one run, off an RBI that was scored by Tech junior second baseman Michael Davis.
Texas Tech is back in action this weekend when they open Big 12 play at Texas on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. All three games of the series will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network. Stick with us in Red Raider Nation on KAMC News for more!
