No. 6 Texas Tech evened the series with Kansas State behind a 7-4 Friday night win.

The Red Raiders (30-8, 7-4 Big 12) put together 13 hits to produce seven RBI on the night.

Tech was led offensively by Tech junior shortstop Orlando Garcia who finished the night 3-for-5 with three RBI. Garcia got the Red Raiders started after he knocked a 2-RBI triple to the gap in right center field to score senior first baseman Hunter Hargrove and freshman third baseman Josh Jung, and gave Tech a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, Garcia knocked in Tech’s third run, after he recorded a hit through the left side to score junior second baseman Michael Davis, to give Tech a 3-1 lead.

Then in the top of the sixth, sophomore Cody Farhat hit a solo home run to build Tech’s lead to 6-2.

Kansas State (17-17, 2-9 Big 12) would chip into Tech’s lead in the bottom of the sixth however, senior first baseman Jake Scudder hit a two-run blast to get the Cats back within two, 6-4. It was Scudder’s second home run on the night.

Those were the two pitches that Tech sophomore left-hander Steven Gingery would like to have back, but nonetheless it was another solid outing for Gingery. The California native pitched 6.2 inning, allowing four hits, four earned runs, while adding 10 strikeouts and only one walk.

In the top of the ninth inning, Tech’s Michael Davis hit a solo bomb over center field to give Tech some breathing room, and a 7-4 lead. From there on Tech would hold on.

Texas Tech will go for the series win on Saturday at 2 p.m. from Tointon Family Stadium in Manhattan, KS.
