No. 8 Texas Tech cruised past Kansas 10-3 in their Friday night opener against the Jayhawks, improving the Red Raiders to a perfect 7-0 this season in Big 12 series opening games.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Texas Tech in Lawrence.
Through five innings, Texas Tech (35-14, 15-4 Big 12) and Kansas were knotted up at 1-1, but over the final four frames, the Red Raiders exploded for nine runs, to blow past the Jayhawks.
Tech freshman pitcher Davis Martin, picked up the win to improve to 8-0 on the season. He is the only freshman in the country with at least eight wins to remain undefeated this season.
Game two is set for Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. in Lawrence, KS.
