The No. 3 Texas Tech baseball team closed its home stand with its first shutout of the season, defeating New Mexico State 7-0 on Tuesday at Rip Griffin Park.

The Red Raiders (6-1) outhit the Aggies (7-2) 12-5 on the day with Tech putting up six runs through the middle three frames on the way to its sixth straight victory.

Sophomore Bryce Bonnin impressed in his second start as a Red Raider, tossing a career-high 6.0 innings of shutout ball in the win. He struck out three while giving up four hits and walking two against a lineup that entered as the nation’s top offense.

The Red Raider bullpen continued its strong start to the season, allowing just one hit over the final three frames and retiring all nine Aggies it faced with a double play to close it out. Freshman Trey Garlett pitched the seventh, junior John McMillon had the eighth and junior Caleb Freeman finished with the ninth.

Senior Cameron Warren connected on a three-run blast in the fourth inning to help the Red Raiders open up a 4-0 lead. It marked his second home run of the season as he finished with three RBI for the second time this season.

Senior Brian Klein had three-plus hits for the second straight game, going 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored after posting a 4-for-7 performance Sunday against Kentucky. Klein scored the first run of the ballgame in the second, motoring from first to score off a Dylan Neuse triple to the right field corner.

The RBI triple for Neuse was the second of his Red Raider career. The sophomore left fielder has hit safely in all seven games as a Red Raider and recorded an RBI in six consecutive games. Tuesday also marked his team-leading fourth multi-RBI game of the season, while he and Klein share the team lead with four multi-hit games.

Tech continued to do damage in the fifth as junior Josh Jung led off with a walk and scored on a base hit from sophomore designated hitter Cody Masters. Neuse followed with an RBI single that scored Klein to give Tech a 6-0 advantage. The Red Raiders added one more in the sixth as Klein got into a double that scored freshman Max Marusak.

Masters had his most productive day at the plate this season, going 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and an RBI. Neuse finished 2-for-2 with a walk, a triple and two RBI. Freshman shortstop Dru Baker also recorded a multi-hit game at 2-for-5 with his first career double.

Aggie leadoff hitter Logan Bottrell led New Mexico State at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Starter Aldo Fernandez went 3.1 innings in the loss, giving up four earned runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

The Red Raiders will now hit the road for the first time this year to take part in the Frisco Collegiate Classic Friday-Sunday with games against Nebraska, Mississippi State and Sam Houston State, followed by a trip to San Diego for two games against San Diego State March 5-6.
