Texas Tech avoided elimination at the Big 12 Championships with a 4-1 win over Baylor Thursday in Oklahoma City.
After being shutout on Wednesday, Texas Tech got on the board in the second inning on Ryan Long’s run scoring double that plated Hunter Hargrove.
Orlando Garcia pushed the lead to 3-0 in the third inning with a two-run home run to center field. It was the junior’s 12th home run of the year and fifth against the Bears.
Cody Farhat put Texas Tech on top 4-1 in the seventh inning with his third home run of the season.
Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Steven Gingery threw six scoreless innings and improved to 9-1 on the year.
Texas Tech plays again at 3:15 p.m. Friday against the loser of Thursday afternoon’s game between West Virginia and Oklahoma State.
