Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard was named a semifinalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award on Monday.

The Red Raiders won a share of their first ever Big 12 Championship by beating Iowa State on Saturday.
Beard won his second straight Big 12 Coach of the Year honor on Sunday in just his third season as the program’s head coach.

In Addition to Beard the semfinalists include Tony Bennett (Virginia), John Calipari (Kentucky), Roy Williams (North Carolina), Mark Few (Gonzaga), Tim Izzo (Michigan State), Matt Painter (Purdue), Rick Barnes (Tennessee), Kelvin Sampson (Houston), Nate Oats (Buffalo) and Mike Young (Wofford).
The winner will be announced during the Final Four in Minneapolis.
