Evans Among Naismith Trophy Top 30

Keenan Evans of the Texas Tech men’s basketball team is one of 30 players to be named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy Late Season Team as announced Wednesday by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

Evans is one of nation-leading five players from the Big 12 on the list. He joins Mohamed Bamba (Texas), Jevon Carter (West Virginia), Devonte’ Graham (Kansas) and Trae Young (Oklahoma).

Evans has worked his way to 18.7 points, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game. All three marks are ranked inside the Big 12’s Top 11 highlighted by the 18.7 points which are second on the Big 12 leaderboard. Texas Tech has won nine of 10 games this season and 15 of 19 games overall when Evans goes for 20 or more points.

Evans has piled up 1,425 career points which ranks 18th on Texas Tech’s all-time list. He moved past Dub Malaise (1964-65-66) and Jeff Taylor (1979-80-81-82) with a 26-point performance versus No. 23 Oklahoma last night. Evans also has handed out 319 career assists which currently stands 12th in program history.

The list of 30 players for the Naismith Trophy will be trimmed down to 10 semifinalists which will be revealed on Feb. 28. Only the 10 semifinals are eligible for the group of four finalists which will be released in mid-March.

After the four finalists are announced, fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite player by visiting www.naismithtrophy.com/vote between March 19-30. The fan component counts for five percent of the final vote. The 50th Citizen Naismith Trophy will be awarded on April 1 during the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio.
