Senior Gabriela Talaba led the Texas Tech Women’s Tennis Team with the highest Oracle/ITA Division I Preseason Ranking in program history.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the rankings Tuesday afternoon with Talaba coming in at No. 2 in the country.

Talaba closed out the 2016-17 season at No. 8, marking the highest individual final ranking in school history.

“I can’t be prouder of the work Gabriela has put in this summer,” Head Coach Todd Petty said. “She is well deserving of this honor, but understands it’s early and she must work to continue to fill the gap in her game.

Junior Felicity Maltby earned the second highest ranking on the team as she was placed at No. 27 among the nation’s singles players.

Senior Sabrina Federici and junior Alex Valenstein rounded out the Lady Raiders’ rankings, coming in at No. 101 and No. 120 respectively.

In doubles preseason rankings, Federici and teammate Sarah Dvorak earned a spot in the Top 10 nationally (No. 8). Talaba and Maltby followed with a No. 21 doubles ranking.

Federici and Dvorak finished the season at No. 33 following the NCAA Tournament.
