After a phenomenal week at Rocky Johnson Field, Texas Tech softball’s Karli Hamilton was named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time this season, announced by the league on Tuesday.

Hamilton helped the No. 15/14 Red Raiders to a perfect 7-0 week as she collected a league-leading four home runs, three triples and a whopping 15 RBI – double the amount of RBIs produced by any other player in the Big 12. Hamilton also led the league with an impressive 30 total bases, tied for the league lead with five walks and 11 runs scored while hitting .550 at the plate.
She became Techs all-time leader in career triples with her first hit of the week – an RBI triple in game one against UEP – and she came in to score in the next at-bat.In game two against the Miners, she put Tech on the board with a three-run homer – her first of the season – that sailed over the right-field wall. She walked and scored in the bottom of the second and produced an RBI double to left center before scoring again in the bottom of the fourth.
Her first-inning heroics continued as she gave Tech an early 2-0 lead in game one against Gardner-Webb after she launched a two-run homer to left field. Hamilton produced an RBI ground out to short later in the third to help Tech to an 8-0 win over the Runnin’ Bulldogs. Just one double away from a cycle against Jacksonville State, Hamilton led the Tech lineup with a perfect, 3-for-3 outing at the plate with three RBI.She produced an RBI single for her first hit of the game then followed up with an RBI triple and her third home run of the season against the Gamecocks.
The junior was the first Tech runner to score in game two against Gardner-Webb and she gave the Red Raiders a commanding, seven-run lead off her fourth home run of the season – a grand slam to put tech up, 9-2. She went another 3-for-3 in Tech’s final game against Northern Colorado. She singled second and came all the way home on the next pitch to put Tech up, 1-0. Returning for more in the bottom of the second, Hamilton tripled down the right field line and scored once more in the next at-bat. She collected her third hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth and she remained patient for a walk later in the game.
After the week, Hamilton ties for 10th overall in the Big 12 record books with 11 career triples in her three seasons as a Red Raider. She finished the week with five putouts and now leads the league with six triples, 30 runs scored and 62 total bases while ranking in the top-five in hits (36), steals (9) and RBI (21).
The Red Raiders will continue action this weekend at the Tiger Classic in Memphis, Tenn. Tech will face North Alabama and Murray State on Friday, March 15, before facing host Memphis on Saturday. The Red Raiders will wrap up the Tiger Classic against Maine on Sunday. Live stats will be available for all games.
