After a stellar week at the plate, Texas Tech softball’s Jessica Hartwell was named the Big 12 Player of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday. The award marks the fourth weekly Big 12 nod of her career.

Leading the Big 12 Conference with four home runs this week, Hartwell helped the Red Raiders to a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Texas Tech Invitational. Hartwell recorded a home run in all four games last weekend and is just two homers shy of tying the school’s all-time career home runs record. Hartwell tied for the lead league with six runs scored, 19 total bases, ranked second with a 1.357 slugging percentage, sat fourth with seven RBI and ranked fifth in the league with seven hits in four games.

She picked up two hits – a single and her first home run of the weekend – in Tech’s first game against UT Arlington and launched a two-run home run to put the Red Raiders up on the board after four scoreless innings against North Texas. She produced an RBI single and two-run homer in Tech’s second game against the Mean Green and tallied another RBI single and a home run in the Red Raiders’ final game against UT Arlington.

After the weekend, Hartwell ranks in the league’s top-five rankings in home runs, runs scored, RBIs and total bases and ranks sixth overall in batting average, hits, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
