Jessica Hartwell Named NFCA All-American

Texas Tech softball’s Jessica Hartwell was named Third Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Wednesday.

Hartwell becomes the third Red Raider in program history to earn All-America honors, joining Sandy Butler (1998) and Amanda Renfro (2001), both of whom were second-team selections.

“I am very proud of and could not be more excited for Jessica,” head coach Adrian Gregory said. “Her junior year numbers were outstanding, leading us in almost every offensive category. She is a unique player that is both motivated and willing to put the needs of the team first, while personally accomplishing so much. This is a special day for Jess and Texas Tech softball.”

The junior first baseman had a record-setting junior season in the scarlet & black. The Galt, Calif., native re-wrote the school record book, setting new single-season records in home runs (20), slugging percentage (.897) and runs scored (63). In addition to her power numbers, she hit .400 on the season while going 16-20 in stolen bases to lead the team.

Only five players in the country have tallied more home runs this season than Hartwell. The mechanical engineer major also ranks in the top 10 in the country in total bases, runs scored and slugging. Among conference leaders, Hartwell ranked in the top three in home runs, RBI, runs scored, slugging, total bases and stolen bases.
