Josh Jung Adds Another All-America Honor

Texas Tech baseball’s Josh Jung has been named a Perfect Game/Rawlings Freshman All-American honoree, it was announced today.

It is the second Freshman All-America accolade for the San Antonio third baseman, who was also named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper freshman squad on June 7. Last week, fellow first year teammate Grant Little was posted to the NCBWA Freshman All-America squad, giving Tech eight freshman awards in five years under head coach Tim Tadlock and his staff.

Jung’s award marks the second-straight year a Red Raider has received first team recognition, as RHP Davis Martin was named to the team in 2016.

Jung started in all 62 games at third base for the Red Raiders in 2017. He compiled a .306 average at the plate, racking up 75 hits, including 14 doubles, two triples and six homers. He also recorded 43 RBI and 55 runs scored, one off the team-best mark, which was also second in the Big 12.

He capped the year with a team-high 24 multi-hit performances, which included six three-hit bids and one four-hit game against Oklahoma State on April 21. He finished third among Red Raiders in multi-RBI games, putting together four days with three and one with four. From March 18 to April 30, he reached base safely in 29-straight games, the first Red Raider to do so since 2015.

Jung turned a strong conference slate into a Big 12 Freshman of the Year award, a second team All-Big 12 honor and a unanimous All-Big 12 Freshman nod. During conference play, Jung put together a .351/.543/.456 line with 33 hits, 15 RBI and 25 runs. He led Tech in runs and was second in hits by one during the 24-game Big 12 schedule.
