Texas Tech volleyball’s Brooke Kanas was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week by the league office after leading all Big 12 freshmen in kills per set and hitting percentage for the week while fueling the Red Raiders to a sweep of TCU on Saturday.
This is the second weekly award for the freshman right side/outside hitter after earning Big 12 Rookie of the Week to open conference play in September.
Kanas recorded a match-high 13 kills with a career-high .478 hitting percentage against the Horned Frogs. She added a career-high six blocks in helping Texas Tech post a 3-0 win over TCU and garner its fifth Big 12 win of the season.
Earlier in the week, she posted a match-high 18 kills in a four-set loss at West Virginia. She was Tech’s most efficient weapon in the contest, hitting .371 with a block and three digs.
Kanas has been stellar since the start of league action, turning in double-digit kill performances in 9-of-10 matches. She leads the Red Raiders with 134 kills in Big 12 play at a .336 clip. Additionally, she has led Tech in kills five times in its league slate while leading the team in hitting percentage six times.
During Big 12 play, Kanas ranks second in the league among freshmen with 3.62 kills per set. She also leads all freshmen and ranks third in the Big 12 overall in hitting percentage at .336.
The Red Raiders (16-8, 5-5) return to action Saturday at Kansas with first serve set for 6:30 p.m.
