Junior college transfer Kiara Shoals has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Lady Raider Basketball program for the 2018-19 season, Head Coach Marlene Stollings announced Tuesday.

“Kiara is very athletic and brings size to the guard/forward position. She can score in a variety of ways, especially driving to the rim with authority,” Stollings said. “Her court awareness and ability to rebound are skills that I really like about her game. We are extremely happy to add her to our Lady Raider movement!”

Shoals is a 5-10 guard/forward from Foreman, Ark. She played the last two seasons at Frank Phillips Junior College. During her two-year career, Shoals led Frank Phillips to 40-18 record, a Top-15 national ranking and a second place finish in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC).

This past season, Shoals earned NJCAA Division I All-America Honorable Mention honors and was named to the NJCAA All-Region V Women’s Basketball Team. She also earned a spot on the all-conference team both seasons at Frank Phillips.

Shoals set the school record with 1,002 career points and averaged 17.3 points per game. During the 2017-18 season, she set the single-season record for points scored (541) and steals (103).

“I am very excited to play at Texas Tech! I immediately felt at home with the coaching staff and I respect that Coach Marlene is turning the program around,” Shoals said. “I feel this is a great opportunity for me and I’m very excited and looking forward to it.”

Shoals was a four-year letterwinner at Foreman High School. She was earned All-District honors all four years and 2A All-State three times. Shoals was the all-time leading scorer at Foreman High School with nearly 2,000 points scored and is the all-time leading rebounder.
