Highlighted by a 40-point performance from junior Brittany Brewer, The Lady Raiders captured a 104-84 win over Oklahoma in the opening round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships on Friday night.
With the win, the Lady Raiders improved to 14-16 on the season. Texas Tech’s 104 total points against the sooners was the most points scored in a Big 12 tournament game since the Big 12 began. It was also the second time this season that the Lady Raiders hit the century mark.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth scoring battle between the two teams, but Senior Zuri Sanders scored a layup with 18 seconds on the clock to push the Lady Raiders ahead, 29-27. Texas Tech shot 70.6 percent from the field, led by Sanders and Brewer who had 22 of the Lady Raiders’ 29 points.
Texas Tech went on to outscore the Sooners, 22-16, in the second period, pushing Tech’s lead to eight heading into the half.
The third quarter was another tight quarter as Oklahoma’s Madi Williams kept them in the fight with 11 points in that period.
But the Lady Raiders wouldn’t allow Oklahoma to regain the lead in the final period as they outscored the sooners, 29-20. Texas Tech went on a 13-2 run during the third period, pushing the lead to 21 after Eryka Sidney nailed a three-point shot. It was all red and black from that point on as the Lady Raiders cruised to a huge victory.

Texas Tech: Three Lady Raiders scored in double figures. Brittany Brewer led the team with 40 points and 15 rebounds for her 14th double double of the season. Zuri Sanders followed with a career high 25 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Chrislyn Carr scored 16 points and had a career high eight assists in the win.
Oklahoma: The Sooners had four in double figures led by Ana Llanusa who scored 20 points. Taylor Robertson and Madi Williams followed with 19 points a-piece while Jessi Murcer rounded out the four with 10 points of her own.

· Junior forward Brittany Brewer scored a career high 40 points and tallied 15 rebounds for her 14th double double of the season and 17th of her career.
· Brewer’s 40 points was the most points scored the most points ever in a first round game and was the third-most points all-time in a game at the championship. With 40 points tonight, Brewer becomes the first Lady Raiders to scored 40+ points in a game since Jia Perkins scored 41 against Creighton (Dec. 4, 2002). Brewer is just the sixth player in school history to score 40+points in a single game. Brewer scored 21 of her 40 points in the first half and 12 in the first quarter.
· u Brewer’s 16 field goals tied a career high, is the most-ever in a first round game at the Big 12 Women’s Championship, and tied for the second-most all-time behind Baylor’s Brittney Griner (19) in 2012.
· Senior forward Zuri Sanders tallied a career high 25 points and just her second 20-point game of the season and her career. Sanders shot 88.9 percent from the field (8-for-9) and 81.8 from the FT line (9-for-11). Her eight makes from the field and nine makes from the charity stripe is a career high.
