The Lady Raiders sent senior Zuri Sanders out with a bang as Texas Tech defeated Oklahoma, 88-82, on Senior Night.

With the win, the Lady Raiders improve to 13-16 this season, and 4-14 in Big 12 play. The win is the first over the Sooners since March 5, 2011 and it also marked the first time the Lady Raiders have split the season series with the Sooners since the 2010-11 season.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle, but the Lady Raiders charged back and extended their lead out to 14 points at the half. Texas Tech outscored OU, 23-7, in the second period alone.

The third quarter was another tight one, but the Lady Raiders held onto a 16-point lead heading into the final period.

The Sooners took advantage of a 14-0 run to cut down the Lady Raiders’ lead to just two with 4:38 left in the game. OU connected on a few more shots and took the lead after Madi Williams hit a layup to make it 81-80.

Freshman point guard Chrislyn Carr hit floater in the paint to regain the lead. With just 26 seconds left of the clock, Oklahoma was forced to foul and the Lady Raiders knocked down seven of the last eight free throws to secure the 88-82 win.

TOP PERFORMERS

Texas Tech: Three Lady Raiders scored in double figures. Zuri Sanders led the team with 15 points and 14 rebounds for her seventh double double of the season and 10th of her career. Chrislyn Carr led the team with 26 points of her own while Sydney Goodson followed with 20 points. 

Oklahoma: The Sooners had four in double figures led by Ana Llanusa who scored 27 points and had four steals. Taylor Robertson followed with 21 points while Mandy Simpson recorded a double double with 11 points and 16 rebounds and Madi Williams scored 10 points.

QUICK HITS

·        The Lady Raiders move to 13-16 on the season, 4-14 in Big 12 play.

·        This was the 57th meeting between Texas Tech and Oklahoma. The Lady Raiders improved to 23-37 all-time vs. the Sooners.

·         The win marked the first over OU since March 5, 2011, when the Lady Raiders defeated the Sooners, 61-56, in Lubbock.

·        This is the first time the Lady Raiders have split the season series with Oklahoma since the 2010-11 season.

·        Texas Tech had two players score 20+ points for the second time this season. Chrislyn Carr led the team with 26 points while Sydney Goodson followed with 20 points of her own.

·        The Lady Raiders scored 20+ points in the three of the four quarters tonight, marking the first time since Tech scored 30-33-27 in the first three quarters against Abilene Christian.

·        Tech’s 26 points in the third quarter was the most scored in a quarter since the Lady Raiders scored 27 in the second quarter at Kansas.

·        The Lady Raiders forced a season high 29 turnovers by the Sooners.

·        Senior forward Zuri Sanders tallied 15 points and 14 rebounds to mark her 7th double double of the season and 10th of her career. The 15 points marked Sanders’ 8th double digit point game of the season and 15th of her career. The 14 rebounds marked her 17th double digit rebound game of the season and 22nd of her career.

·        Freshman point guard Chrislyn Carr led the team with 26 points, marking her 7th 20-point game of the season.

·        Sophomore guard Sydney Goodson scored a career high 20 points in the contest. She also had four assists and three steals against the Sooners.

·        Junior forward Kiara Shoals recorded a career high eight points and a career high six rebounds against the Sooners.
