Texas Tech baseball’s Grant Little has been named Big 12 Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

It’s the first award of the season for the sophomore outfielder and second in his career, claiming the honor in the final week of the 2017 regular season (May 22). He joins Josh Jung (Feb. 19) and Michael Davis (March 5) as winners of the accolade during the 2018 season.

Little, a Midland native, racked up nine hits in 18 at-bats over the four-game week, which included two doubles and two homers. He had a career day on Friday night against K-State, going 4-for-5 with two dingers, featuring his first career grand slam, along with a walk. The grand slam was just part of a nine-RBI night for Little, scoring twice.

It was the first nine-RBI performance by a Big 12 player this season and matched a school record at Texas Tech. Little joined John Grimes (March 23, 1984) and Mike Bewley (March 21, 1975) as the only Red Raiders to ever record nine RBI in a single game.

Little carried it over into the next day, spilling out a 3-for-5 day at the plate, with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored. As a whole, Little had at least one hit and one run in every game of the week.

As a whole, Tech tallied 56 runs against K-State, the most ever in a conference series, passing the previous school record of 37 in 2014.

Little and the Red Raiders return to action on Tuesday, April 17, against New Mexico at 2 p.m. CDT at Santa Ana Star Field in Albuquerque.
