Men’s Basketball Earns Top 3 Seed at NCAA’s

The Texas Tech men’s basketball program captured a No. 3 seed in the NCAA East Regional and will play its opening round game in Dallas as announced Sunday by the NCAA Selection Committee.

The Red Raiders (24-9, 11-7 Big 12) take on No. 14 seed Stephen F. Austin (28-6, 14-4 Southland) in Thursday’s NCAA Tournament First Round. Tip time is on-tap for 6:27 p.m. CT from American Airlines Center home of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks. The game will be televised by truTV.


No. 6 seed Florida (20-12, 11-7 SEC) and either No. 11 seed UCLA (21-11, 11-7 PAC 12) or Saint Bonaventure (25-7, 14-4 Atlantic 10) will take the floor 30 minutes following the Tech-SFA matchup. The two winners will meet in Saturday’s NCAA Second Round.

Texas Tech secured its 16th overall NCAA Tournament trip and has earned a bid in two of the last three seasons. The Red Raiders are one of seven teams selected from the Big 12 conference. 

The winner from the Dallas pod advances to the NCAA Sweet 16 and regional semifinal in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday, March 23 and will face the winner of the Detroit pod which features No. 2 Purdue, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 10 Butler and No. 15 Cal State Fullerton. The 2016 NCAA Final Four will be played at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas.
