Texas Tech men’s basketball head coach Chris Beard has signed Davide Moretti to an Athletic Scholarship Agreement announced Monday.

Moretti, a 6-3 combo guard from Bologna, Italy, is one of the best international guards of the 2017 class. He represented his country as a member of the U18 and U20 National Teams last summer. Moretti picked up All-Tournament First-Team honors and led Italy to a Bronze medal finish at the FIBA U18 European Championships He also will play for Italy at the FIBA U19 Championships in Cairo this summer.

Moretti can play both guard positions and is a dynamic playmaker, scorer and shooter. He can attack the basket and his three-point shooting is one of the main weapons of his repertoire. The Bologna native plays for Treviso Basket where he averaged 12.7 points and 2.2 assists per game as the best U22 player in the Serie A2 Division.

Moretti chose Texas Tech over Indiana, UConn and Utah. He will join the Red Raiders as a freshman for the 2017-18 season. Tech’s incoming freshman class already features Jarrett Culver, Daniel Mading, Malik Ondigo and Zhaire Smith.   

Moretti’s father, Paolo, was a high-level professional player who captured three Italian League championships, two Italian Cup championships and two Italian Supercup championships. He was a member of the Italian National Team silver medal team at EuroBasket 1997.
