Men’s Basketball Signs Pair to NLI

The Texas Tech men’s basketball program received National Letters of Intent and Athletic Scholarship Agreements from Deshawn Corprew and Kyler Edwards Wednesday as part of the NCAA fall signing period.

Corprew is the fifth Top 100 high school player to sign with the Red Raiders under second-year head coach Chris Beard. The list includes Jarrett Culver, Hyron Edwards, Brandone Francis and Tommy Hamilton IV.


Corprew, a 6-6 forward from Norfolk, Virginia, is a freshman at South Plains College playing for Steve Green, the reigning National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Coach of the Year. He has posted 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game for the No. 3 ranked Texans during his first two games of the 2017-18 season. Corphew has hit on 55.6 percent of his field goal attempts.

Corprew was a Top 100 player and four-star recruit out of high school where he played at Quality Education Academy. He was ranked No. 7 overall player in the state of Virginia per 247Sports in the class of 2016.

Edwards is the sixth overall Top 100 high school player to sign with Texas Tech under second-year head coach Chris Beard and the second Top 100 member to commit to the Red Raiders in the Class of 2018.

Edwards, a 6-4 guard from Arlington, Texas, is playing his final season of prep basketball at the prestigious Findlay Prep in Nevada. He received close to 30 scholarship offers and chose the Red Raiders over Butler, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech.

Edwards amassed 22.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game during his junior season at Arlington Bowie High School. He was tabbed the District 4-6A Offensive Player of the Year.

Texas Tech starts its 2017-18 season versus South Alabama as part of the regional round of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament. Friday’s tip time is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT with the game being televised by FOX College Sports and the FOX Sports Go app. Chuck Heinz, Craig Wells and Adam Doyle will serve as the announcing team.
 
The Texas Tech Sports Network will carry the game live on its flagship station Double T 97.3 FM in Lubbock. Geoff Haxton and Clark Lammert will have the call. The radio broadcast also will be available on the Texas Tech Sports Network radio affiliates, online at www.TexasTech.com and the Tune-In Radio app. Fans can interact live with Friday’s broadcast by following @GunsUpRadio on Twitter. 
 
Fans can purchase tickets to Friday’s game for as low as $10 online at www.TexasTech.com or in person at the United Supermarkets Arena Box Office which opens 90 minutes prior to tipoff. Fans also are reminded to go clear at all Texas Tech basketball games. The clear bag policy provides a safer atmosphere and speeds up the entry process into the United Supermarkets Arena.
 
Season tickets are on-sale and features the affordable Red Raider Sports Pass at $99. Single-game and mini-plan ticket information will be announced by the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office at a later date.
