The Texas Tech men’s basketball team will take on Memphis as part of the 2018 HoopHall Invitational on Saturday, December 1 from American Airlines Arena home of the NBA’s Miami Heat announced Monday.
The four-game event features St. John’s against Georgia Tech, North Carolina State versus Vanderbilt and Miami against Yale. Game times and ESPN network assignments will be announced at a later date.
The Red Raiders and Tigers will meet on the hardwood for the seventh time. Memphis has won the previous six meetings, but the two teams haven’t met since the 1985-86 season.
Texas Tech will be playing in an event hosted by the Basketball Hall of Fame for the second straight season. The Red Raiders defeated Boston College and No. 20 Northwestern to win the Naismith Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Memphis turned in a 21-13 record and earned a fifth-place finish in the American Athletic Conference. The Tigers are led by first-year coach Penny Hardaway and are scheduled to return their top five scorers headed by Jeremiah Martin and Kyvon Davenport who secured 18.9 and 13.3 points per game, respectively.

Texas Tech is coming off the program’s first NCAA Elite Eight trip and a program-best second-place Big 12 finish en route to a 27-10 record in 2017-18. The 27 wins were the second-highest total in program history for a season only behind the 30-2 mark put together by the 1995-96 squad under James Dickey. The Red Raiders also set a program single season record with eight victories over Associated Press Top 25 opponents and captured a program-best No. 6 final ranking in the USA Today/Coaches Top 25 poll.
