The No. 13 Texas Tech men’s golf team was selected to its 17th-straight NCAA regional championship on Wednesday.

The Red Raiders, who will compete as the No. 3 seed at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, will be joined by No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 12 Illinois, No. 24 UNLV, Wake Forest, Northwestern, Penn State, Tennessee, Louisville, Jacksonville, Michigan State, Yale and Cleveland State in the 13-team field.

Tech’s 17-straight NCAA postseason appearances is now the record for any Texas Tech athletic program, passing the 16 consecutive postseason trips achieved by the Lady Raider basketball program, from 1990-2005.

“We have good memories from The Scarlet Course in 2002 and 2013, so I feel pretty comfortable with the course,” Tech head coach Greg Sands said. “There are a lot of talented teams in our regional, but at this point, everyone’s pretty good. When we are healthy and at our best, we have beaten a lot of these one and two seeds in the field. We’ve been practicing really well, so I feel confident about us returning to form at the right time.”

Tech has two previous postseason appearances in Columbus, playing the Scarlet Course at the 2002 NCAA Championships, and then in 2013, when the Red Raiders took fifth at the Columbus regional, advancing to the national championship.

The Red Raiders have four golfers (Fredrik Nilehn, Hurly Long, Ivan Ramirez and Wes Artac) on the roster with multiple NCAA regional appearances under their belts, and a fifth, Sandy Scott, who served as an alternate last year at the College Grove Regional.

The regional will take place May 14-16, with 18 holes of golf being played each day. The top four individual scores of the five participants each day will count toward the overall team score. The top five teams from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 24-30, at Karsten Creek, in Stillwater, Okla.

Golfstat will provide live scoring for the tournament. For more news and updates on Texas Tech Men’s Golf, follow the team on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
