Men’s Tennis Lands Artem Kapshuk to ASA

Artem Kapshuk has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement to join the Texas Tech men’s tennis team announced Tuesday.

 


Kapshuk, a native of Kiev, Ukraine, spent his first two seasons at Temple where he most recently played the No. 1 singles position in 2017. He will begin his junior season with the Red Raiders for 2017-18.

 


“Atrem is an outstanding player that we are getting to transfer to Texas Tech,” Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. “Not only does Artem come in with experience playing at the Division 1 level, he played number one singles while at Temple. I’m really excited to have Artem join our family and add his skillset to an already talented class we have brought in.”

 


Kapshuk produced a 42-16 singles record and won 30 of his 40 dual matches for the Owls over the last two seasons. He emerged with a seven-match winning streak to close the 2017 season, all seven decisions came in straight sets.

 


Kapshuk was a quarterfinalist at the 2016 ITA Atlantic Region Championship and won a three-set decision over No. 118 Juan Cruz Sora of South Alabama at the 2016 Saint Francis/ITA All-American Championships.

 


Kapshuk registered a junior ITF Top 300 ranking and will major in business management at Texas Tech.
