The No. 6 Texas Tech Women’s Tennis team’s season came to an end as the Lady Raiders fell to No. 3 Ohio State, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships on Sunday.
Texas Tech (27-5) wraps up a historic season after advancing to the Elite 8 for the first time in school history. The Lady Raiders earned the third Big 12 regular season title while winning the Big 12 tournament crown for the first time.
Ohio State (32-2) advances to the program’s first Final Four and will face Stanford.
The Buckeyes picked up the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.
Junior Katelyn Jackson fell in straight sets to Ferny Angeles Paz (6-2, 6-2) just before No. 91 Miho Kowase defeated Sabrina Federici 6-4, 6-1.
The Buckeyes clinched the match as No. 67 Anna Sanford won in two sets over No. 58 Felicity Maltby.
On court one, No. 9 Gabriela Talaba claimed a 6-4 set-one win over No. 1 Francesca Di Lorenzo and trailed 4-2 in the second set before the match was completed.
Four Lady Raiders will represent Texas Tech in the NCAA Championship Singles and Doubles competition later this week.
Talaba and Maltby earned at-large bids to compete in the singles competition while doubles duo Federici and Sarah Dvorak will represent the Tech in the doubles competition.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 24-29 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Talaba was selected as one of the Top 16 national seeds for the singles tournament and earned the program’s first All-America honors.
