Texas Tech sprinter Divine Oduduru was named Athlete of the Week by the Big 12 Conference for his school record performance last week at the Red Raider Invitational.
“What an impressive first outing ever in the 200m indoors,” head coach Wes Kittley said. “That was really remarkable. I feel that this is going to be a fabulous year for Divine. He has adjusted so well to the NCAA and we can’t wait to see him compete more and see what he can do.”
The freshman has hit the record books early, claiming not one, but two all-time records in his first two indoor competitions for the Red Raiders.
This past week he clocked a No. 1 Texas Tech record 200-meter dash at 20.49, adjusted to 20.56 with altitude. This time secured him the second-ranked time in the nation and in the world this season.
Oduduru also finished first amongst attached athletes in the 60-meter dash at the Corky Classic with his 6.66 time (6.68 at altitude). This mark holds as the second-best 60m time ever run by a Red Raider and is ranked fourteenth in the nation.
The Red Raiders have claimed two Athlete of the Week accolades in the first two weeks of competition and will look to do so again in this weekend’s competitions.
Tech will host two meets this weekend. The Red & Black Open will take place on Friday starting at 4 p.m. The Texas Tech Classic & Multis will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will continue to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
