Bruce Feldman reported that new Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards is targeting Texas Tech’s defensive coordinator to become the Sun Devils new D.C.
Texas Tech responded to the report by telling Red Raider Nation Wednesday night “David Gibbs is our D.C.”
Gibbs was the defensive backs coach for Edwards from 2006 – 2008 with the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to the USA Today coaches salary database, Gibbs was the 82nd highest paid assistant in 2017, making $550,000.
Arizona State’s D.C. this past season, Phil Bennett made $650,000 which ranked 58th.
Texas Tech’s defense led the big 12 in interceptions and ranks 6th nationally in turnovers gained.
