Texas Tech softball placed a school-record six student-athletes on the 2018 All-Big 12 Softball Teams, announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Junior Jessica Hartwell headlined the group with a first team selection while redshirt sophomore Karli Hamilton received a second-team nod. Redshirt freshmen Heaven Burton and Michaela Cochran along with true freshmen Erin Edmoundson and Kelcy Leach were named to the All-Freshman Team.

This is the first Big 12 postseason award for all six Red Raiders. Tech joins Oklahoma and Oklahoma  State as the only schools with six or more players on the list.

Four all-freshman selections mark the most for Texas Tech since the honor was first added to the postseason awards list in 2015. It ties Oklahoma’s 2016 club with the most student-athletes from one school named to the freshman team.

Hartwell becomes the first Red Raider named to the first team since 2014, adding the award to a growing list of accolades after a sensational junior season that saw her break the school’s single-season home run record. The Galt, Calif., native was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this season, was named national player of the week twice in 2018 and was also one of six Red Raiders to earn first team Academic All-Big 12.

Hartwell ranks fifth in the nation in home runs with 19 on the year while hitting .397. During Big 12 play, she ranked second in the league in home runs, slugging and stolen bases. Her 46 total bases during Big 12 play tied for the league-lead, while her .404 average ranked third.

Hamilton, who was sidelined the entire 2017 season, had a strong sophomore campaign, finishing second on the team in home runs (7) and RBI (46) while matching Hartwell for the team-lead in stolen bases (14). She started all 52 games in right field and hit .325 with a .986 fielding percentage.

In her first year in the program, Burton finished second on the team in batting at .381 and tied for the team-lead in hits with 64. The designated player from Round Rocky, Texas, joined Hamilton with five triples this season to break the school record for triples in a season and also went 8-of-10 in steals.

After redshirting in 2017, Cochran had a breakout season for the Red Raiders, hitting .354 while starting all 52 games in center field. A native of Ennis, Texas, she tied with Burton for the team-lead in hits at 64 while finishing second on the team in runs scored.

Edmoundson proved to be one of the team’s top weapons in the circle, tallying 14 wins with a team-best 3.19 ERA. She led the team with 155.2 innings pitched and 116 strikeouts, numbers that ranked in the top three of the league for the season. Over the course of the season, she also became a threat at the plate, hitting .250 for the year with four doubles and was 3-for-3 at stealing bases.

Leach started 30 games at catcher for the Red Raiders and hit .323 during Big 12 play with three home runs. She tallied five total home runs for the year to finish third on the team, while driving in 16 runs and slugging .482 for the season.

The Red Raiders (28-24, 5-13) are the No. 5 seed in the 2018 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, which begins with pool play Friday at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium Complex in Oklahoma City. Tech will face No. 3 Baylor at 2 p.m. on Integris Field and No. 2 Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. on OGE Energy Field.
