Texas Tech ended a 38-inning home run drought in the first inning against Kansas Friday but it was nothing compared to the drought Tanner Gardner ended.
The senior’s solo home run in the first was his first of the season but he wasn’t done. Gardner’s second came in the sixth inning and put the Red Raiders up for good in the 10-6 win over the Jayhawks.
Hunter Hargrove added two insurances runs with a bloop single to right field in the seventh inning. The senior first baseman with 2-for-4 at the plate.
Earlier in the day, Hargrove and Steven Gingery were among the 25 players named semifinalists for the Dick Howser Award.
Gingery struck out seven in five innings of work but did not factor into Friday night’s decision.
Texas Tech goes for the series win at 6:30 p.m Friday night at Rip Griffin Park.
