Texas Tech had no answer for the reigning Big 12 pitcher of the week Alek Manoah in Friday’s 2-0 series opening loss to West Virginia in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers starting pitcher struck out 15 Red Raiders in the complete game shutout.
West Virginia plated runs in the first and the third inning against Erikson Lanning, who pitched 4.1 innings and struck out five in his first starting since not getting an out against Kansas.
Cameron Warren started a rally with a lead-off double in the top of the eighth inning, but Manoah struck out the side to end the threat.
The series resumes at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Monongalia County Ballpark.
