Texas Tech baseball completed the sweep of Kansas with a 9-4 Saturday win, and claimed it’s second-straight conference championship for the first time in the 68-year history of the program.
It marks Texas Tech’s (42-13, 16-8 Big 12) sixth conference crown in program history.
Texas Tech shares the conference title with rival TCU, even though the two finished with the same league record (16-8).
Texas Tech was the first Big 12 team to sweep Kansas this season.
The Red Raiders started fast and never looked back. Tech outscored Kansas 7-3 over the first five innings and closed the final four innings by outscoring KU 2-1.
Tech was led offensively by freshman outfielder Grant Little who went 3-for-5 at the plate, including three doubles and two runs batted in. Freshman third baseman Josh Jung wasn’t far behind Little, as he went 1-for-4, while adding two runs batted in of his own.
The Red Raiders will now shift their focus to the Big 12 tournament where they will be the conference’s number one seed. Tournament play will start on Wednesday, May 24 from Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, OK.
